Azerbaijani national hero's memory perpetuated in Canada

By Jamila Babayeva
An information board commemorating Azerbaijan's national hero Mubariz Ibrahimov was unveiled at the Minto Park in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, upon the initiative of the Azerbaijani community on June 8.
Also a tree was planted in memory of the national hero.
Speaking to the unveiling ceremony, Yashar Mughan, a member of the Azerbaijani community, provided an insight into the life of Mubariz Ibrahimov, who died for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He said Ibrahimov was "an example of heroism to our youth", Azerbaijan's Embassy to Canada reported. The officials of the Azerbaijani embassy also attended the ceremony.
Mubariz Ibrahimov, 22, perished after killing four Armenian soldiers and wounding four others in a clash in June 2010 on the contact line between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces. He was posthumously declared a National Hero by President Ilham Aliyev.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. have produced no results so far.
