The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States (CCTS) released a statement on the situation in Egypt on August 16.

In the statement, the foreign ministers of the CCTS deplored the violence taking place in Egypt.

"We deplore the loss of lives and injuries which occurred in Egypt yesterday as a result of use of force to respond to the ongoing demonstrations. We consider that civilian casualties are unacceptable and convey our condolences to the families of those killed and wish for a full and speedy recovery to those injured. We emphasize the urgent need for exercising restraint and reconciliation in the country and call for restoration of security, democracy and stability," the statement reads.

The foreign ministers of Turkic-speaking countries stressed the need for establishment of peace in Egypt and called for the restoration of security, democracy and stability in the country.

The Egyptian army launched a crackdown on demonstrators, supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, using military equipment and firearms, on August 14.

Death toll during the army crackdown on protesters reached 638.

The Muslim Brotherhood leaders claim that nearly 2,000 people were killed during the crackdown and about 15,000 civilians injured.
