Germany says Washington summit created ‘historic impetus’ for Armenia-Azerbaijan ties
Germany has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to build on the momentum generated by last year’s Washington summit, describing the meeting as a historic turning point in relations between the two countries, AzerNEWS reports, citing the post shared on the German Foreign Office.
“Today we are marking the anniversary of the summit between Armenia and Azerbaijan hosted by the United States in Washington last year,” Germany said in a statement.
The summit “created a historic impetus in relations between the two countries”, Berlin said, urging Yerevan and Baku to continue moving forward along the path towards peace.
“Peace and stability in the South Caucasus are in our common interest,” Germany said.
Berlin also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the peace process alongside its partners in the European Union and the United States.
“Germany, together with its partners in the EU and the US, will continue to support this process,” the statement said.
The remarks come as international partners continue to encourage Armenia and Azerbaijan to consolidate progress towards a lasting peace agreement and greater regional stability.
