Baku Marshals Club launched PHOTO
The Baku Marshals Club of the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe has been launched, Azertac reported.
Azerbaijan`s Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the Club.
Addressing the event, Rahimov spoke of Azerbaijan`s experience in hosting largescale events. He underlined the importance of the role of marshals in the competition.
According to the minister, 1,200 marshals have been involved in the European Grand Prix.
Head of the Bahrain Marshals Club Fayez Ramzi hailed the preparations to the competition, and the “close” cooperation between the marshals of the countries.
Formula 1 race fans will gather in Azerbaijan on June 17-19, as its capital will host the eighth stage of the 67th season of Grand Prix of Europe for the first time.
With a length measuring at slightly over six kilometers, the 20-corner track will be lapped 51 times, with cars reaching potential speeds of up to 340km per hour, marking the circuit out as the fastest street circuit on the existing F1 calendar.
The circuit offers a number of challenges for drivers, including an extremely narrow uphill section along the old town walls that will require pinpoint accuracy, and it has an acceleration section of almost 2.2 kilometres along the seaside promenade, which will see the cars running flat out at very high speed - something that will create an incredible show for race fans.
