Silk Way plane cancels test flight due to engine failure

Silkway Airlines Boeing 747-400 aircraft with 4K-SW888 registry has made an emergency landing at Hong Kong airport due to failure of one of the engines, Silk Way told Trend on July 15.

Boeing 747-400 aircraft underwent a D Check at HAECO Facility in Hong Kong, said the company.

“As a normal procedure after the D Check accomplishment, the aircraft was taken to a test flight,” said the company. “After several delays due to typhoon reports in Hong Kong, the aircraft was ready for the test flight, and took off at 22.00 UTC (06.00 AM Local) on July, 14, 2015. “

However, right after take off at around 500 feet altitude, engine No.3 had surged, and therefore failed, according to Silk Way. “The pilots immediately cancelled test flight, returned to airport and landed safely.”

There are no damages on the aircraft, however, the engine is unservicable and therefore is being removed, said the company.

Silkway Airlines has immediately dispatched a replacement engine, and the failed engine will be undergoing a shop visit and repair in accordance with the Total Care Contract between Silkway Airlines and Rolls Royce,” said the company.

The reason of such failure will be found out after the shop investigation, according to Silk Way.
