GM Uzbekistan cuts car sales in Russia

GM Uzbekistan, the former UzDaewooAuto, in January-September 2015 sold 15,498 cars in Russia, or 50.5 percent less than the same period of 2014, the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the European Business Association reported.

Russia is the main export market of GM Uzbekistan.

In September, GM Uzbekistan sold 1,746 cars in Russia, or 25.7 percent less compared to September 2013.

In January-September 2015, the share of GM Uzbekistan in the Russian market was 1.3 percent compared to 1.8 percent in the same period of last year.

None of the car models manufactured by the GM Uzbekistan was in the top 25 most sold in the reporting period.

In general, the car plant ranked 19th in terms of car sales in Russia.

Currently, GM Uzbekistan produces cars under ten brands: of them, five are sedans - Nexia, Cobalt, Lacetti, and Malibu, two subcompact models - Matiz and Spark, the Captiva SUV, the Orlando minivan, the Damas minivan and the Labo mini-truck.

Last week, GM Uzbekistan said that it plans before late 2015 to carry out rebranding and to start production of the exported vehicles under a new brand name – Ravon instead of the old Daewoo.

On the domestic market of Uzbekistan, GM Uzbekistan’s cars are sold under the Chevrolet brand.
