Iran to showcase new missile systems

Iran is set to unveil its latest long-range and medium-range missile systems in the coming weeks.

Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on August 6 that the missile systems will be displayed during a military parade on September 22, Press TV reported.

The annual September 22 parades mark the start of the Week of Sacred Defense, commemorating Iranians' sacrifices during the 8 years of Iraqi-Iranian on Iran in 1980-1988.

Esmaili said the new systems include combined, artillery and radar systems, adding that the long-range missiles have been optimized by Iranian military experts.

During the parades last year, the Iranian armed forces displayed different weapons and military tools and equipment, including different kinds of fighters, choppers, drones, ground-to-ground missiles, air-to-ground missiles, surface-to-surface missiles, tactical and armed vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electronic and telecommunication equipment, light and mid-light weapons, different kinds of artillery and mortar-launchers, air defense systems and engineering and logistic equipment.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

On June 2, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) officially put into service an indigenously developed long-range radar system, named Ghadir, capable of detecting stealth aircraft.

The state-of-the-art radar system uses three-dimensional (3-D) technology to detect airborne targets, including radar-evading aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, and satellites in low orbits.

Iran has frequently announced that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
