Iran-six nuclear agreement on roadmap unlikely to happen soon : expert

A nuclear agreement on roadmap between Iran and the P5+1 group unlikely to happen soon, Iranian political analyst, author of book on Iran's nuclear program, Mehdi Mahdavi Azad told Trend news agency.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.

Iran's FM Mohammad Javad Zarif, during his visit in France, told France24 that a framework deal with world powers on its nuclear work was "possible this week", although it was not necessary to hold to any such deadline.

"I believe that if we don't make a breakthrough at this round it's not a disaster," Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told France 24 television. "A lot of work has to be done, but there is a great deal of mistrust in Iran."

Mehdi Mahdavi Azad believes for the time being, Iran and P5+1 are discussing a common roadmap which would decrease concerns of the West, and ease sanctions on Iran step by step. He said this would not be the final agreement.

"Both sides try to keep the roadmap classified," he said. "Reaching an agreement on roadmap is difficult and can not be achieved in the latest round of discussions on November 7 and 8."

"West is concerned about Iran's Fordow nuclear power plant, and the Arak heavy water nuclear reactor," Azad said, adding that the other side wants Iran to suspend oart of its uranium enrichment production.

"The Western side is ready to accept Iran enriching uranium at 5 percent level," he said.
