Senior Iranian diplomat says heading to Russia, Turkey
By Trend
Hossein Jaber Ansari, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for African and Arab affairs, has said he will visit Russia and Turkey in the near future to discuss regional developments.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov in Tehran, the Iranian diplomat said Iran, Russia and Turkey will be brainstorming the developments more in depth, ISNA news agency reported August 15.
The announcement comes a few days after Ansari’s superior Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Turkey, where Tehran and Ankara announced a new chapter of political cooperation, especially over the Syrian crisis.
The Turkish government took a turnabout on its ties with Russia and Iran after the July 15 military coup attempt.
Iran was the first country to condemn the coup attempt, President Hassan Rouhani later telling President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he also had a sleepless night when the Turkish leader was fighting tooth and nail to save the state.
Turkey used to be at loggerheads over Syria with Iran and Russia, which back Syria’s President Bashar Assad.
