Allah's blessed Muhuarram is one of the four sacred months. The
word "Muharram" means "Forbidden" and is derived from the word
haram, meaning "sinful". It is the first month of the Hijri (lunar)
calendar and moves from year to year in the Gregorian calendar.
Muharram is also a month of remembrance and often considered to be
synonymous with the event of Ashura. Ashura refers to the tenth day
of Muharram. It is well-known for its historical significance,
honoring the mourning of the martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali, the
grandson of Muhammad. Some Muslims fast during these days.
