Azerbaijan to launch new carriage works plant in 2016

Azerbaijan’s new carriage works plant constructed by Swiss company Stadler in Ganja, the second largest city located 345 kilometers west from capital Baku, could be put into operation in 2016, Azerbaijan Railways LTD's Press Service Director Nadir Azmammadov on November 17.
The ceremony of laying the foundation of the new facility was
attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in October 2014.
Azmammadov told Trend Agency that currently, large-scale
construction works are underway in the territory allocated for the
new plant.
“Construction and commissioning of the new plant will take about
one and a half years. Initially it is expected to produce about 50
cars a year at the plant,” he added.
The passenger cars of Azerbaijan Railways are currently repaired abroad, particularly in Ukraine and Russia, due to lack of the necessary infrastructure.
The Swiss Stadler Rail Group, with its ten sites in Bussnang, Altenrhein, Winterthur (Switzerland), Berlin (Germany), Siedlce (Poland), Pusztaszabolcs, Szolnok (Hungary), Czech Republic (Prague), Italy (Meran), and Algiers (Algeria), is focusing on regional and suburban service markets, regional express railway service, and streetcars.
Stadler Rail has positioned itself as a supplier, complementing global rail vehicle builders such as Alstom, Bombardier, and Siemens.
