More than $200 billion has been invested in Baku over the past 20 years, Head of the Baku City Executive Power (Mayor), Eldar Azizov said.

Speaking at the IV Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan Interregional Forum in Tashkent, Azizov said investment in the Azerbaijani capital has continued to grow, supporting the city’s transformation and development.

“The interesting point is that over the past 20 years, more than $200 billion has been invested in the city. This process continues and develops,” Azizov said.

According to him, the development of Baku has been driven by the policy pursued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with the city preparing for new standards of urban development.

Azizov noted that Baku and its surrounding agglomeration are now home to more than three million people. The capital has also seen the construction of major modern architectural landmarks, including the Heydar Aliyev Center, Baku Olympic Stadium and Flame Towers.

The Baku mayor emphasized that the capital is not only a rapidly developing metropolis but also a platform for investment in urban infrastructure.

“The most important thing is that the city is safe. Moreover, safety is not only ensured by order, cleanliness and the effective functioning of the law enforcement system on the streets. Baku is also a safe city for investments in the city’s infrastructure,” he said.

Azizov also invited Uzbek businesses to participate in investment and joint projects in Baku.

“We invite them to cooperate in our city, in our city squares,” he emphasized.
