Turkish president invites Ilham Aliyev to attend OIC’s Jerusalem summit
By Trend
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made a phone call to Azerbaijan's leader Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani presidential press service reported on Dec. 9.
President Erdogan invited President Aliyev to attend an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the Jerusalem issue.
President Aliyev accepted the invitation.
The heads of state emphasized that US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem is wrong, saying these steps are contrary to international law and could lead to serious consequences in the Middle East.
The heads of state also noted that Turkey and Azerbaijan would continue to defend the interests of the Muslim world, noting that the countries have contributed to the Islamic solidarity.
President Aliyev expressed his gratitude on behalf of Azerbaijan’s people for the mission undertaken by Turkish president to support the Islamic solidarity.
