Japan Tobacco International awarded for project in Azerbaijan

Japan Tobacco International Azerbaijan has won a prestigious award offered by the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan.

The company was awarded for best projects in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility in 2014, JTI said.

JTI, which is a leading international tobacco manufacturer, won the Silver Award in the category of Regional Development for its support in the construction of a water supply system in central Azerbaijan.

The Award was presented in an official ceremony of the AmCham on February 5.

Last year, JTI supported the project presented by the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan for the construction of a water supply system to provide drinking water to the population of about 1,800 people living in Qarasaqqal village of Kurdamir region. The water supply system was commissioned in April 2014 and put into the disposal of the local community.

Two more water supply projects – in Shaki and Lerik regions started in 2014 and will be completed shortly.

Water supply projects are only part of JTI’s broad CSR portfolio in Azerbaijan, which includes various projects in the area of people and arts.
