Azerbaijani gov't to improve youth employment

Over the last year, the number of Azerbaijan's economically active population increased by 1.5 percent reaching to 4,794 million on July 1, 2014.

Meanwhile, the number of employed people increased by 1.7 percent, reaching to 4,556 million during the mentioned period of time.

Labor and Social Protection of Population Minister Salim Muslimov made the remarks at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of socioeconomic development in the first half of 2014 and objectives of future.

Muslimov said, currently the age groups of Azerbaijan's population make it possible to obtain demographic benefits.

"Given this, a project has been launched called "State program in the field of population and development of the Azerbaijani population in 2014-2025 years ". The project is aimed at regulating the qualitative and quantitative growths of youth in accordance with the long line of development of the country in the first six months of the year.

Muslimov stressed that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure creating jobs for active population of the country in the first half of 2014.

"Some 13.742 people who had applied to the employment services were provided with acceptable jobs, 1.782 people were sent to training classes and additional education and 57.327 people were given professional advises," he said.

Muslimov further added that a special project has been launched to try new methods for improving youth employment jointly with the International Labor Organization (ILO).

"As part of this project, the ILO will pay employers half payment for six months in the form of subsidies for a group of young people with higher education, who were hired first time," he noted. "Some proposals will be made to use the obtained positive results of the project on a national scale," he said.
