Iran holds military drills attended by air forces and border troops just days before Day of the Armed Forces.

Iranian Air Force fighters started the exercises in the country's first Tactical Air Base in the capital city of Tehran.

The goal of the exercises is to prepare for the military parade which will take place in Tehran on the occasion of Day of the Iranian Armed Forces, the country's IRNA news agency reported on April 14.

On April 18, Iran celebrates the Day of the Armed Forces. During the day, a military parade will be held in Tehran. All units of the Iranian Armed Forces and the Islamic revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will participate in the upcoming parade.

The parade will take place in front of the mausoleum of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.

Iranian Air Forces' fighter jets, bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, F-7, Saeqeh, Sukhoi-24 (SU-24), Mig-29, Mirage and the logistic C-130 planes will be used in the exercises.

On April 13, Iran's border troops started large-scale exercises dubbed Iqtidar-3 (Force-3).

Over 6,000 border guards serving in Iran's Kermanshah, West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Ilam and Khuzhestan Provinces as well as air defense students of Iranian border patrol academy are participating in these exercises.

The four-day exercises started near the Ghasre-Shirin city of Kermanshah Province.

Unmanned aerial vehicles, bullet proof cars, two-pilot planes, helicopters and paratroopers of the border guards are also involved in the exercises.

The exercises will also include trainings on coordination of border protection activities.

Iran conducts military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and test modern military tactics and equipment.

Iran says its military might poses no threat to other countries, and its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

The country has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector in recent years, and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Head of Iranian Army's "Khatam-ol-Anbia" Air Defence Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said recently the country has added several defensive sites in the country's sensitive and strategic areas.

Esmaili said that the defensive sites have been established by the order and direct supervision of the Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei who is also the Commander in Chief of the Iranian military forces.

Iranian military officials say the country will unveil new air defense and radar systems on the Day of the country's Armed Forces.
