Max Petroleum Plc, a British oil and gas exploration and production company, on September 17 announced positive drilling results at another appraisal well in the Uytas oil field of Kazakhstan.

"In the Uytas field, the UTS-16 appraisal well successfully reached a total depth of 200 meters, with electric logs indicating three meters of net oil pay in the Cretaceous Aptian reservoir over a 33 meters interval ranging in depths from 111 to 144 meters. Reservoir quality is excellent. Hydrocarbon shows were not encountered in the Albian section. The company plans to complete the well and place it on test production as soon as practicable," the company said.

Moreover, Max Petroleum said that the BCHW-3 appraisal well results at Baichonas West Field on Block E had been unsuccessful.

The company completed drilling the BCHW-3 appraisal well in the eastern section of the Baichonas West Field on Block E to a total vertical depth of 1,525 meters. The well encountered oil and gas shows while drilling but electric logs indicated insufficient hydrocarbons to be commercial and it will be plugged and abandoned.

"The results will be analyzed and integrated into the geophysical evaluation of the field for placement of further appraisal wells currently scheduled to be drilled in Baichonas West during 2014. The Zhanros ZJ-20 rig will next move to drill the ESKN-2 well on Block E, the first appraisal well to be drilled at the Eskene North field," the company said.

The Zhanros mobile truck mounted rig is now moving to the UTS-15 appraisal well, which will be drilled to a total depth of approximately 200 meters targeting Cretaceous reservoirs. After UTS-15, an additional six wells remain to be drilled as part of the initial appraisal program in the field.

On September 9 Max Petroleum announced 9 positive drilling results in both Sagiz West and Uytas fields.

Max Petroleum is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company focused on Kazakhstan. The company holds a 100 percent interest in the Blocks A and E license area covering over 12,455 square kilometers in the highly prolific Pre-Caspian Basin in Western Kazakhstan.

The Pre-Caspian Basin has produced some of the world's largest oil and gas discoveries, including the giant Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak and Astrakhan fields, which range in size from seven to 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable reserves.

Since September 2006, Max Petroleum has drilled 76 wells in its Blocks A and E license area including 26 exploration wells generating eight commercial discoveries at the Zhana Makat, Borkyldakty, Uytas, Asanketken, East Kyzylzhar I, Sagiz West, Baichonas West and Eskene North fields.
