Iran ready to provide help in mine clearing - minister
Iran is ready to provide help and its experience in the field of
mine clearing to other countries, Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi
said in his letter to the Iranian media outlets.
Vahidi wrote the letter on the occasion of upcoming International
Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April
4.
"Iran is ready to provide a valuable experience in all areas of
de-mining of territories," Vahidi said.
The defense minister said that during the 8-year war between Iran
and Iraq, the Islamic Republic gained extensive experience in
de-mining.
"More than 20 million mines were planted in five of Iran's western
provinces, to go along with 20 million more of unexploded bombs,"
Vahidi wrote.
The minister said that a lot of progress has been made in cleaning
out the areas with planted mines, and he expressed hope that this
year all dangerous areas would be completely cleared.
