Tajikistan, South Korea sign a Memorandum of Co-op in tourism field

Tajikistan and South Korea intend to establish cooperation in the field of tourism. Recently, the parties signed a corresponding document.
The Chairman of the Tourism Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, Nu'mon Abdugaforzoda, met in Dushanbe with the President of the International Tourism Association of the Republic of Korea.
As the Committee for the Development of Tourism of Tajikistan told Avesta, during the meeting, the sides discussed prospects and opportunities for cooperation between Tajikistan and South Korea in the tourism sector.
In particular, the parties discussed issues of holding a business forum of travel agencies of the two countries, the organization and holding of thematic exhibitions, the possibility of studying the experience of South Korea.
The sides also discussed the possibility of organizing courses for training workers in the tourism sector in Tajikistan and interchange with tourists.
Following the meeting, the Tourism Development Committee of Tajikistan and the South Korean Association of International Tourism signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
In 2018, as many as 1,336 South Korean citizens visited Tajikistan, according to the Tourism Development Committee of Tajikistan.
Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea were established on April 27, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Dushanbe has been operating since June 20, 2008.
The political and trade-economic relations of the two countries are based on agreements in the field of trade, mutual protection and encouragement of investments, rejection of mutual requirements for obtaining visas for holders of official and diplomatic passports.
In 2017, the volume of trade between Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea is about $ 16 million. Almost the entire volume of trade comes from the supply of South Korean goods to Tajikistan. In Tajikistan, there are 16 joint ventures with funding from South Korea.
Tajikistan intends to use the experience of Korea, equipment and new technologies to establish domestic production of household appliances, hygiene products, household chemicals and high-quality competitive light industry products based on local raw materials.
