NATO-Azerbaijan relations discussed in Azerbaijan’s regions

Romanian Embassy in Azerbaijan, NATO International School of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has held a series of seminars in Azerbaijan’s regions.

The regional seminars were organized in Shamkir, Mingachevir and Barda on May 6-8 on the theme “Euro-Atlantic security and cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO: past experience and perspectives”.

The students and teachers from local universities, representatives of regional authorities at the events took part.

First panel of the regional seminars was dedicated to NATO’s role in Euro-Atlantic security architecture and referred also to foreign policy of Azerbaijan and Euro-Atlantic integration. Second panel touched upon the issues of fundamentals of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO as well as mechanisms and instruments of this cooperation: Partnership for Peace, Individual Partnership Action Plan, Planning and Review Process.

Each seminar included a game simulation conducted by Tural Ahmadov, the director of NATO International School of Azerbaijan. Nadir Sarajli, a representative of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry presented Baku’s perspective on the partnership with NATO.

In his speeches at seminars, Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, the Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan highlighted the importance given by diplomatic mission of Romania in Baku to disseminating information about NATO in different regions of Azerbaijan.

Romanian embassy fulfills the mandate of NATO Contact Point Embassy to Azerbaijan for the fourth time in a row.

He said Romanian embassy pays a special attention to raising awareness among the Azerbaijani young generation towards NATO’s policies and values as a way of ensuring a solid ground for future deepening of relations. He added that NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation brings mutual benefits and contributes to regional and Euro-Atlantic security. Azerbaijan is an important and active NATO partner.

Participants in the seminars exchanged views on the positive experience of NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.

NATO and Azerbaijan are actively cooperating on democratic, institutional, and military reforms, and enjoy practical cooperation in various areas. The cooperation plan between Azerbaijan and the NATO is set out in the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) on Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan aspires to achieve Euro-Atlantic standards and get closer to Euro-Atlantic institutions. In this regard, supporting reform in the security sector and establishing democratic institutions are the key elements of the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
