Armenians breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan in several directions
The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has become tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 52 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported.
The ceasefire was violated in Farahli and Gizilhajili villages of Gazakh region, Aghdam village of Tovuz region, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veysalli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Garakhanbayli and Horadiz villages of Fuzuli region, Yusifjanli and Bash Garvand villages of Aghdam region, Chilaburt village of Terter region, Mehdili village of Jabrayil region and nameless hills of Khojavend region on July 24 and on the night of July 25.
The Armenians were silenced with a retail fire, the ministry said.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in
1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces
occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh
region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are
currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.
