Baroness Susan Greenfield, a Board Member of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, will participate in the First South Caucasus Forum on Inclusion organized by Club de Madrid and Nizami Ganjavi International Center in Baku 6-8 May 2013.

Some 30 heads of state and governments, 12 members of the Club de Madrid, 12 members of Nizami Ganjavi International Center, and over 200 high-level experts, stakeholders, scholars and civil society representatives will address democracy-related issues like inclusion, shared societies and women's economic, social and political empowerment in Azerbaijan.

This first South Caucasus Forum on Inclusion will gather participants to provide support to the authorities of Azerbaijan in facing the challenges of democratic development, particularly inclusion of minorities and internally displaced persons.

Baroness Professor Susan Greenfield, a pioneering scientist, an entrepreneur, a communicator of science and a policy adviser is considered by many to be one of the most inspirational and influential thinkers and one of the 14th most influential woman in the world.

Greenfield has long been regarded as a world-leading expert on the human brain, and is widely known for her research into Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. She has received a life peerage and a CBE in the United Kingdom.

Being the first woman to have lead the prestigious Royal Institution of Great Britain Greenfield also holds the positions of Senior Research Fellow, Lincoln College, Oxford and Honorary Fellow at St Hilda's College, Oxford.

Greenfield is a passionate science communicator, making science relevant and compelling. Interested in the physical basis of consciousness and how brains function and change, she presented the major six part series Brain Story on the BBC, as well as many other television and radio programs and public lectures.

Greenfield's best sellers include The Human Brain: A Guided Tour, Brain Story and Tomorrow's People: How 21st Century technology is Changing the Way We Think and Feel.

Susan argues passionately that the adoption of scientific knowledge, thinking and methods in areas that science is not traditionally considered is a means to improving quality of life and building thriving societies in the 21st century.

The Club de Madrid is an independent non-profit organization composed of over 90 democratic former presidents and prime ministers from more than 60 countries, who have come together to respond to a growing demand for support among leaders in two key areas: democratic leadership and governance; and response to crisis and post-crisis situations.

Nizami Ganjavi International Center, based in Ganja, Azerbaijan's second largest city, was established in September 2012 in order to increase awareness of the great works of poet Nizami Ganjavi, to help return his masterpieces back to his homeland, to serve as a depository for Nizami's works, and to further develop the values embodied in his works through community engagement.
