Azerbaijan and Mexico are looking to expand cooperation in cinema, with a particular focus on documentary filmmaking, cultural exchange, and joint film projects.
The issue was discussed at a meeting at the Azerbaijan Filmmakers Union (AUF) attended by Mexico's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Victoria Romero, Cultural Attaché Aristeo González Guerrero, embassy staff member Gunel Hajiyeva, and representatives of the DokuBaku International Documentary Film Festival (DokuBaku IDFF).
The meeting also highlighted the participation of Mexican director Roberto Ortiz in the 10th DokuBaku IDFF, where his documentary Ángeles FC has been selected for the DokuKids section. Dedicated this year to the theme "Stellar Civilization," the festival will take place in Baku from October 5 to 11.
The participants discussed ways to strengthen creative and professional ties between the two countries, as well as opportunities for future joint film projects. Plans for Ortiz's visit to Baku were also considered, along with the possibility of organizing a workshop and masterclass with the director as part of the festival.
The DokuKids section is designed to introduce young audiences to different cultures, perspectives, and real-life stories through documentary cinema. It aims to broaden children's horizons while encouraging openness and critical thinking.
The meeting, jointly involving the DokuBaku International Documentary Film Festival, the Azerbaijan Filmmakers Union, and the Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan, was seen as an important step toward creating new opportunities for cooperation between the film communities of the two countries.
Following the meeting, the guests toured the AUF's cinema hall and learned more about the union's activities.
