The Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku has opened the fifth Easter Charity Bazaar.

The event is co-organized by the Russian Embassy in the country, as well as the Russian cooperation center in Azerbaijan and Baku-Azerbaijan eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Many officials including Belarus envoy to Baku Nikolay Packevic, MPs, diplomats, science and culture officials, businessmen, as well as clergy took part at the event.

Oleg Murashev, the Russian charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan, Baku and Azerbaijan’s archbishop, as well as Aleksey Konnov, the deputy head of the Russian cooperation in Azerbaijan greeted the guests.

The event was also remembered with performance of the Michaelo-Archangel Church’s choir, conducted by Kristina Efendiyeva.

The two-day Bazaar includes a wide range of events inclusion a charity lottery.

The visitors had a chance to try delicious food and sweets, and children were able to have lots of fun in a special corner designed for them with face painting and many games.

All money from the charity Easter bazaar will be directed to the needs of orphans.

Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, is Christianity’s most important holiday. It has been called a moveable feast because it doesn’t fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do.

As with Christmas, over the centuries various folk customs and pagan traditions, including Easter eggs, bunnies, baskets and candy, have become a standard part of this holy holiday.
