Itzhak Perlman glorifies classic music in Baku
By Nigar Orujova
Itzhak Perlman performed at the Heydar Aliyev Center on April 28.
The night of the classic music was dedicated to the 91st birthday anniversary of prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
The Israeli-American violinist, a 15 Grammy and 4 Emmy Award winner, was accompanied by Sri Lankan pianist Rohan de Silva.
The classic repertoire offered the Baku audience an opportunity to enjoy pieces by outstanding composers like Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Strauss, and Claude Debussy.
Perlman was born in Israel in 1945. He studied at the Academy of
Music in Tel Aviv, and then at the Juilliard, one of the largest
art schools in the US.
Winning the Leventritt Competition, a prestigious contest of
academic musicians in the US, in 1964 greatly influenced his future
career.
The virtuoso violinist has toured the world with famous orchestras
and solo concerts since then, performing at prestigious halls such
as the Kennedy Center in and the White House several times.
Perlman also fascinates the audience with his skills as a
conductor, directing the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony
Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles
Philharmonic, and the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Boston, San
Francisco, St. Louis, Dallas, and Houston at various times.
Perlman was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 1986 and the National
Medal of Arts in 2000 in the United States. He was also prized an
honorary doctorate and the medal of the Juilliard School on the
occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2005.
