French firm seeks to upgrade water supply system in Azerbaijan
Suez Environnement, one of the biggest water supply and waste recycling companies in world, has prepared a package of bids for Azerbaijan, the company's senior vice-president for international development, Francois Carmantrand told journalists in Paris.
He said Suez Environnement has been working with the national water operator of Azerbaijan, Azersu since 2010.
"The company has conducted an audit in Baku to consider the possibility of long term cooperation," Carmantrand said.
He said the prepared packet of bids includes uninterrupted provision for Baku with drinking water for 24 hours by the start of the first European games in 2015.
"The services in particular, are to create laboratories on the quality of water and centres for teaching Azersu staff," Carmantrand said.
He said negotiations on this issue are underway, noting that company representatives will pay a visit to Baku next week.
The company is also considering the opportunity for cooperation in the field of treating household waste, cleaning Baku's harbor and soil rehabilitation.
"A leakage problem is being observed in Baku's water system," he said. "The company is offering to put in a system which envisages the instalment of special sensors to show up any leaks and effectively resolve the problem. This system has been effectively implemented in several countries."
The Suez Environnement company is based in Paris. It is operating in North America, South America, Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific Ocean.
Its operations relating to the water supply include the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants, testing and production of drinking water, storage and distribution, industrial processing and desalination.
Its activity related to waste management includes the collection and treatment of urban waste, recovery and disposal of non-hazardous waste, energy recovery by converting waste unsuitable for reuse into electricity, organic recovery, storage, processing and recovery of technological waste.
