Formula 1 Grand Prix in Baku is planned to be renamed to the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan, Nigar Arpadarai, Head of Marketing and Communications at Baku City Circuit told journalists on October 3.

She said that Azerbaijan has sent an appeal to the leadership of the Formula-1 in this regard.

“We received no objections from the F1 leadership. We hope that the next competition will be held under the name Grand Prix of Azerbaijan,” Arpadarai emphasized.

The main goal of renaming the Baku stage of the F1, according to her, is to bring many of the European values, which Baku has, to the wider international community.

“We have successfully held the first edition of the Formula 1 in the capital, which was witnessed by millions of fans from different countries. Now it is time to link the name of the stage with our country. We believe that the next stage of the competition will be called Formula 1 Grand Prix of Azerbaijan,” she said.

Baku has turned into a circuit of legendary corners seeped in history with cars running through Baku's Old Town, a UNESCO World heritage site and the city's modern boulevards that run along the Caspian Sea.

Along with Monaco and Singapore, Baku was the third street circuit on the calendar.

The length of the race track, where 11 teams each with 2 pilots, competed for the best title, was 6 km and had some pretty serious changes in altitude, ascents and descents. The width of the widest portion of the track was 13 meters and the narrowest section was 7.6 meters.
