Tehran has rejected the reports about the talks between Iran and Russia for supplies of petrochemical products in exchange for other products.

Abbas Kazemi, Iranian Petrochemical Commercial Company public relations and international affairs director told Trend on July 29 that there has not been such a thing as the barter of petrochemical products.

Last week, Iranian media reported that Russia is in talks with Iran for supplies of petrochemical products in exchange for assets as part of their barter deal.

The media quoted Ahmad Mahdavi, secretary of the association of Iranian petrochemical industries union as saying that in recent weeks, a couple of Iranian and Russian delegations had held meetings to discuss barter of Iranian petrochemical products with other goods from Russia.

“Russian companies have announced readiness to import urea, methanol, and polymer products from Iran,” Mahdavi said.

Russia, the Central Asia and Caucasian nations are among Iran's markets for exports of petrochemical and polymer products.

As the two countries suffered from sanctions, they were, reportedly, attempting to bypass restrictions through such a barter deal.
