Turkish company to build power plants in Turkmenistan

Turkish company Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. has received two large contracts for the construction of two gas turbine power plants in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Turkmenistan said.
According to the Ministry, an appropriate decree was signed to ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the consumers in the country and the implementation of the Concept of development of electric power industry of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020 by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow.
Turkmenenergo electric power corporation will sign an agreement on designing and building a 252.2 megawatts gas turbine and external systems and facilities of communication, electricity, gas and water supply in Ak Bugdai region of the Ahal province.
The construction work is planned to begin in July 2013 and to complete in December 2014.
The second contract implies the design and construction of a 504.4 megawatts turbine power station and external systems and facilities of communication, electricity, gas and water supply, railway and highway in Derweze district of Ahal province. In this case, the construction work is also planned to begin in July 2013 and commissioning isexpected in December 2015.
Further increase of generating capacity in Turkmenistan will take place not only through the construction of new gas turbines, but also on the basis of upgrading of existing steam turbines that will greatly increase their effectiveness.
In accordance with the development strategy, the level of electricity production in Turkmenistan will reach 35.5 billion kilowatt/hour by 2030.
In order to achieve this goal it is planned to build three gas turbines power plants of combined cycle with total capacity of 1,122 megawatts in this period. The construction of high voltage transmission lines (power lines) and substations will also be continued.
In the perspective the energy system of the country will be fully ringed with the 500 kilovolts high voltage overhead power lines and by 2020 it is planned to build a 500-kilovolt of Balkanabad-Ashgabat-Mary high-voltage line, which will allow mutual backup of eastern and western parts of Turkmenistan.
