The friendly relations between the neighboring countries - Azerbaijan and Iran - are developing day by day.

Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Board Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade made the remark during a meeting with Head of the Iranian State Radio and Television Ezzatollah Zarghami on October 13.

Pashazade wished good health for Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Recalling close relations between the Azerbaijan's great leader Heydar Aliyev and Khamenei, Pashazade said the relations of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Iran's supreme leader are also at the high level of friendship and brotherhood.

"I am very pleased that the friendly relations between the two countries and their leaders are improving day by day," Pashazade said.

He noted that currently the relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are at a high level in all areas, and Zarghami's visit will promote cooperation between the two countries.

Pashazade stressed that in the modern world, Islam should be promoted as it really is, and the media play a special role in this regard.

Zarghami, for his part, said there are about 160 radio and television companies in Iran and 29 of them are broadcast via satellite around the world.

He said the role of films, television, radio and other mass media is very important in promoting Islam.

Zarghami earlier met with Azerbaijan's Communications and High Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov and discussed the cooperation in this sphere.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $281.03 million in 2013, which is 6.13 percent higher than 2012. The figure stood at $263.785 million in 2012.
