The House of Representatives of the U.S. State of Mississippi adopted a resolution supporting the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani embassy in the U.S reported that the legislative body recognized Azerbaijan as a strategic partner of the United States.

The sides have been cooperating in various fields for over 20 years, according to the document.

The resolution stressed Azerbaijan's great achievements in the economic sphere.

The legislative body also pointed out that Azerbaijan is the initiator of such large-scale and strategic projects as the Baku -Tbilisi- Ceyhan and the Baku -Tbilisi -Erzurum pipelines and the Baku- Tbilisi-Kars railway.

Last year, the House of Representatives of Mississippi recognized the Khojaly tragedy, committed by the Armenian armed forces in 1992, as genocide.

The United States recognized Azerbaijan's independence in December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in February 1992. Seventy-six documents are included in the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.

Since Azerbaijan's emergence as an independent nation in 1991, the U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership based on mutual interests and common values. At present, Azerbaijan-U.S. relations are developing rapidly.
