Protests in Turkey not affected tourist flow from Azerbaijan - association head
Protests taking place in several Turkish cities from May 31 against the felling of trees at Gezi Park in the centre of Istanbul in connection with the construction of shopping centre have not yet affected the influx of tourists from Azerbaijan to Turkey, chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTA) Nahid Baghirov told Trend news agency.
According to him, no replacement of tickets by Azerbaijani tourists wishing to visit Turkey has taken place either.
Baghirov noted that Azerbaijani tourists planning vacations in Turkey mostly choose not to go to Istanbul, but coastal areas and from this point of view, there is no problem.
"Tourists mainly travel not to the centre of Istanbul, but to its surroundings. Tourists spend very little time visiting Taksim Square. Yesterday, our travel companies spoke with our tourists in Turkey. They noted the absence of any problems," he said.
According to Baghirov, Azerbaijani tourists often travel to Turkey for vacation in July and August.
He also noted that he believes the ongoing protests in Turkey will affect the prices for tourist services.
Some discounts to the price of the services may be offered only if serious problems occur in Turkey.
"But I do not believe in it, as there is no danger of war or terror. People are just expressing their views," he said.
Baghirov also noted that the number of Azerbaijani tourists to visit Turkey is expected to grow in comparison to previous years.
