The talented and young Azerbaijani artist, Maryam Alakbarli presented her new solo exhibition at the Parisian Carrousel du Louvre as part of the “Art Shopping" Festival.

Myriam Annonay Castanet, the gallery director, addressed the ceremony, congratulating Maryam with the opening of the exhibition, expressing confidence that her art works will arouse the interest of the audience.

Castanet emphasized that to convey her feelings and the world she sees to the audience, the talented artist pays special attention to her choice of colors

Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Elchin Amirbekov noted that the exhibition is a success for the young artist.

Maryam, creating a new world filled with energy, frequency, and a variety of colors and light, continues to impress thanks to her delightful artistic abilities.

Her art works have been shown not only in Azerbaijan, but also in France, Germany, Italy, Russia, Turkey, and Latvia, Amirbekov said.

The ambassador noted that the current solo show, devoted to a cave drawings theme reflecting interesting scenes from the life of the primitive communal system, is not a coincidence.

He said that cave drawings, the gavaldash tambourine stone and mud volcanoes are some of the unique samples of ancient and rich cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.

In order to preserve this rich heritage, the open-air museum Gobustan Historical-Artistic Reserve was established 65 kilometers from Baku in 1966.

Azerbaijan's permanent representative to UNESCO Anar Kerimov, for his part, stressed the importance that the exhibition has devoted to the rock carvings of the Gobustan, included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage.

He also added that Maryam, with her art works promotes the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan. Kerimov said that in 2011, Maryam’s exhibition was organized by UNESCO and was a great success.

Art Historian and exhibition organizer Janet Bergere also discussed the main advantages of Maryam’s works.

She noted that the talented artist, conveying her feelings through pictures, once again proved to be a master craftsman.

Bergere said that the young artist work whole summer creating a series of new works reflecting the history of the ancient period. These drawings cover the prior era, which the artist calls the "Shadows of our ancestors."

“In her works, Maryam depicts hunting scenes for deer, wild boars and bulls. Holding hands geometric characters sing popular in Azerbaijan ritual dance ‘Yalli.’ Circles drawn in the style of pointillism, point to mud volcanoes,” she said.

Maryam’s works differ in its meaning and depth of feeling. They express the language of one’s inner world with bright colors. Maryam, who was trained in France, was encouraged by such great artists as Matisse, Gauguin, Cezanne.

Born in 1991, Alakbarli developed a taste for painting and sculpting at a very early age and became actively involved in children's art to a point that her works went on exhibitions.

Her works, including four of her albums, were displayed in Baku, Paris, Istanbul, Ankara, Rome and Moscow.

While suffering from Down's syndrome, Maryam sensing deeply the real world with its problems, heartily infuses her pieces with the warmness of her heart and her subtle perception of reality. Although not appreciated in the way she warrants, she shows all the beauty of the world by hints of the language of colors and brush.
