Mugham Center launches new project

International Mugham Center launches a new grandiose project "Evenings of ashug music".

The project aims to promote Azerbaijan's musical heritage, Trend Life reported.

Evenings of ashug music, organized by Azerbaijan Ashugs Union will run from January to May.

Entitled "Return to Koroglu", the first concert will be held on January 12.

A series of concerts also include "Ələsgərin saz-söz dünyası" (February 16), "Zərif əllər, incə tellər" (March 7), "Aşıq əəmşir seiri" (March 28), "Yada salaq Aşıq Ədaləti" (April 12), "Yeni səslər , qədim havalar " (May 16).

Tickets can be purchased at all the ticket offices of the city, ASAN Service centers and website iticket.az.

Notably, a series of concerts devoted to mugham modes "Rast", "Shur", "Segah", "Chahargyah", "Bayati Shiraz", "Shushter", "Humayun", as well as parties evenings dedicated to various areas of mugham like " Mahur-Hindi "," Bayaty-Kurd "," Orta Mahur "," Rahab ", " Bayati-Gajar"," Shahnaz" and other took place last year.

The ashugs have long been called El anasi (Mother of the People) in Azerbaijan, as they have always expressed the hopes of the people, defended the freedom to love, and sung of devotion to country.

The lyrical poetry of the ashugs comprises dozens of forms and styles.

Ashug is frequently accompanied by balaban and wind bands. However, the saz is the principal instrument of the ashug.

Since 2009 the art of Azerbaijani Ashiqs has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
