Armenian troops further violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan
Armenian armed forces have eight times violated the ceasefire on the line of contact of the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops over the past 24 hours, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry reported on July 21.
Armenian armed forces, stationed in the village of Berdavan of Armenia’s Noyemberyan district and the nameless heights of the Ijevan and Krasnoselsk districts opened fire at Azerbaijani positions located in the nameless heights of the Qazakh and Gadabay districts.
Moreover, Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions on the nameless heights of the Goranboy and Fizuli regions.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
