Azerbaijani teen on ice rinks of Canada
Professional hockey player, 14-year-old Elman Huseynov lives in the far-off city of Toronto and has managed to gain great success on the ice rinks of Canada, AzerTag state news agency reported.
Canada is home to hockey, a game with a 100-year history. The first hockey championships were held in Canada. Children who wish to play pro hockey in this country can take classes at hockey academies, at schools, as well as children`s and youth hockey clubs.
Elman Huseynov was born in Baku and began playing hockey in Moscow at the age of five. For the last four years, he has lived in Toronto where he pursues his studies and plays hockey.
In spite of his young age, he is a winner of the Silver Stick
tournament and by scoring 25 goals and recording 42 assists Elman
became the top scorer of the Toronto league, champion of the
Eastern division of Toronto and silver medalist of the Greater
Toronto league in the 2012/2013 season.
Elman has attracted attention of the strongest clubs from Canada
and Russia. However, Elman`s biggest dream is to put on the
national hockey jersey of Azerbaijan.
This year, Toronto Royals featuring Elman Huseynov thrashed David
Devils 5-0 in the 1/8 final. With two goals and one assist,
Huseynov became the best player of the match.
Although, Azerbaijan has turned into one of the world's leading
sport nations, it is difficult to speak about ice hockey
development in the country because of the climate. However, let's
be optimistic.
We can note with pride that Elman Huseynov proved what Azerbaijanis
are capable of on the ice. Indeed, talent can manifest itself
anywhere. No doubt, special rinks will be created in Azerbaijan in
the near future and the Azerbaijani ice hockey just like other
sports will begin to develop.
