Construction material production increases in Turkmenistan

Turkmen construction sites are fully provided with domestic cement, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting.

"Stressing the need to accelerate operations to provide the construction sector with domestic materials, the president stressed that currently construction sites in the country are fully provided with domestic cement," the government said.

According to the president, this work must be continued in the future. It is necessary to establish the production of nonmetallic materials, precast concrete, expanded clay and other materials.

Cement production in Turkmenistan increased by 69 percent, plastic and fiberglass pipes - 9.4 percent, fittings and other products made of iron - by 22.3 percent, non-metallic building materials - by 11 percent in the first quarter of 2013.

Turkish company Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve San. Tic. A.S. commissioned a plant with a capacity of 1.4 million tons of cement per year in the east of Turkmenistan in early 2013.
The enterprise in the village of Garlyk in the Lebap region will produce high quality Portland cement, oil well cement needed for the oil and gas industries, as well as sulphate resistant cement used in hydro technical equipment.

In October 2011, Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve San.Tic. A.S. launched a similar plant in the west of Turkmenistan, in the area of the city of Jebel in the Balkan region. Its cost is estimated at 180 million euros.

Construction of social and economic infrastructure, life support facilities and roads is being expanded in Turkmenistan. The growing volume of construction work leads to the need to provide industry with building materials. A steel plant, a company producing marble and some other facilities have been constructed over the past few years.

At present, around 2,000 large facilities worth nearly $40 billion are being constructed in the country. In particular, the North-South transcontinental railway is being constructed. New oil and gas fields are being explored. Gas pipelines are being built.
