Turkiye to unveil new economic program
by Alimat Aliyeva
The Turkish government plans to present its new Medium-Term Economic Program for 2027–2029 to the public in Ankara in early September 2026.
The program is being prepared with consideration for global and domestic economic trends, as well as developments in the region. Its main goal is to support more stable and sustainable economic growth in both the public and private sectors.
The document will set key targets for inflation, GDP growth, unemployment, the current account balance, exports and imports. It will also outline measures aimed at improving public finances and maintaining economic stability. The program is expected to be reviewed and updated annually, taking into account the results achieved and changes in economic conditions.
Under Turkiye’s current Medium-Term Economic Program, GDP is expected to grow by 3.8 percent in 2026, while the government’s inflation target for the year is 16 percent.
The authorities expect inflation to fall into single digits in 2027, with a target of 9 percent that year and 8 percent in 2028. Achieving these targets would mark a significant improvement for an economy that has struggled with high inflation in recent years.
At the same time, the Turkish Cabinet is preparing the draft state budget for 2027. The government is expected to submit the draft to parliament by October 17.
An interesting point is that Turkiye’s economic plans are being closely watched by international investors. The success of the new program could influence foreign investment, the Turkish lira, borrowing costs, and business confidence. In other words, the figures announced in September will be important not only for the government but also for companies and consumers across the country.
