Israeli forces launch biggest military operation in West Bank’s Jenin since 2002 [PHOTOS]
Israel continues to launch ground and air strikes against Jenin (a town in the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank). This comes against a backdrop of violent clashes with Palestinian resistance groups. Azernews reports, citing foreign media outlets.
After being evicted from their homes, hundreds of Palestinians have been left homeless with nowhere to go.
A local media outlet says that the main aim of the Israeli regime's brutal attacks on Jenin is to make the town uninhabitable, just like the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it launched "extensive counter-terrorism operations in the area of Jenin city and Jenin camp", striking "terrorist infrastructure".
The IDF conducted some 10 drone strikes, and hundreds of soldiers struck the militants' "command and control" center, as well as weapons and explosives production sites.
Hundreds of Palestinian families fled the area amid the destruction; Jenin Deputy Mayor Mohammed Jarrar said homes and infrastructure had been destroyed, with electricity and water cut off in the refugee camp.
Duha Turkman, a 16-year-old from Jenin, said they were given two hours to evacuate.
"We ran out of the camp with people, very many children were walking with their parents in terror and crying, they didn't understand what was happening to them or why," she told CNN. "Many were missing; families were looking for their members they couldn't contact because of the power cut."
