Georgia and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement on cooperation in customs sphere.

Head of Revenue Services of the Georgian Finance Ministry Irakli Gvaramadze and Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev signed the document within the international conference of customs administrations of Europe in Tbilisi on March 17.

"This is an important agreement, which provides mutual cooperation and exchange of information. We signed a similar agreement with many countries, and only Azerbaijan remained among close neighbors," Gvaramadze told journalists.

Georgia and Azerbaijan are developing a single information system for customs checkpoints, head of the Centre for Information Technology Services revenue Vakhtang Lashkaradze said earlier.

There are six operating customs posts subordinate to the Balakan and Tovuz customs offices between Azerbaijan and Georgia, Sadikhli, Sinig Korpu, Jandargol, Mazimchay, and Muganli automobile posts, and the Beyuk Kasik railway.

Azerbaijan is Georgia's second largest trade partner after Turkey. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia was $1.35 billion in 2013, showing a 7.14 percent increase, the National Statistics Office of Georgia reported.
