The Azerbaijani Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva has prevented Armenia from showing materials distorting the truth about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at an annual fair.

Despite the humanitarian nature of the fair, Armenia's representation attempted to expose materials about Nagorno-Karabakh on its stand, as well as to demonstrate products made by "Armenian masters of Shusha," thus claiming that the occupied Azerbaijani territories are their own land, the mission said.

Azerbaijani Permanent Representative Murad Najafbayli informed the leadership of the Geneva office and the fair organizers and demanded the removal of these materials from the stand, which was done.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
