Rock band seeks to advance `genocide` claims at Eurovision
The Armenian rock band, System of A Down, plans to
use the "Armenian genocide" term during its performance at the
Eurovision song contest in Moscow in May 2009, the Turkey-based
Armenian Agos newspaper reported.
Soloist Serzh Tankian said his band had acquired a high-profile opportunity to promote recognition of the alleged genocide through Eurovision, which is a popular competition viewed throughout Europe.
System of A Down members are descendants of Armenians who moved from Anadolu, Turkey to the United States. For this reason, they decided to dedicate their Eurovision song to the alleged "genocide," according to Tankian. The song contains the words, "My grandfather, who died two months ago, was one of those rescued from genocide."
