Nothing obstacles TANAP’s implementation

There are no obstacles to implement the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline project, which is a good example of high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey.

This remark was made by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz, local media reported on January 8.

He noted some media outlets often write that the Turkish Stream is TANAP’s competitor. “Turkish Stream and TANAP are different projects and they do not compete," Yildiz said.

During the talks in Turkey on December 1, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin talked about ceasing the South Stream gas pipeline from Russia to Bulgaria. A new project was immediately initiated in the same volume of 63 billion cubic meters, designed for Turkey and consumers of the EU countries capable to take the required volumes from the trading hub on the border between Turkey and the EU (Greece).

TANAP, developed by SOCAR in collaboration with Turkish Botas and the energy company TPAO, will deliver Shah Deniz gas to the Turkish-Greek border from eastern Turkey.

The initial capacity of the pipeline will be 16 billion cubic meters of gas a year. TANAP will link up with Trans-Adriatic (TAP) pipeline on the Turkish-Greek border.

About six billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Turkey and the rest to Europe. The costs of the TANAP project are estimated at $10 billion to $11 billion.

Earlier the Turkish 'Borusan Mannesmann', 'Noksel Celik Boru' and 'Erciyas Celik Boru' companies become the winners of the tender on supply of pipes for the TANAP project.

They will provide the supply of pipes for TANAP.
