Spain slams Israel's plan to build in East Jerusalem area
The Spanish government condemned on Friday Israel's decision to build more than 1,200 homes in the so-called E1 zone, a part of the West Bank adjacent to East Jerusalem that Israel has sought to populate with its settlers and seemingly cut East Jerusalem's direct ground connection to Palestine.
"The Government reiterates that all Israeli settlements in occupied territory are contrary to international law, hinder the implementation of the two-State solution and constitute an obstacle to peace," according to the statement shared by the Spanish Foreign Ministry.
Furthermore, Spain called on Israel to cancel the plans and return to the two-state solution as the key to regional peace and stability.
