Novak: Turkish Stream gas pipeline deal almost complete
By Trend
The final touches to the agreement to pipe Russian natural gas
through Turkey should be completed when Russia’s President Vladimir
Putin meets his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in
Istanbul on October 10, Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak
said.
Novak told the Anadolu Agency that the wording of the Turkish
Stream intergovernmental agreement had largely been agreed.
Turkish Stream project, which involves the construction of a gas
pipeline from Russia to Turkey through the Black Sea, was frozen
after the relations between Moscow and Ankara deteriorated in
November 2015. In August 2016, the presidents of two countries
Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed to resume the
implementation of the Turkish Stream project.
"All of us aim to finalize the work on this intergovernmental
agreement right by the meeting of President Putin and President
Erdogan on the sidelines of the World Energy Congress," Novak
said.
The 23rd World Energy Congress kicked off in Turkey’s Istanbul city
Oct.9 and will last till Oct.13.
Running since 1924, the triennial World Energy Congress is the
World Energy Council’s global flagship event that enables dialogue
among ministers, CEOs and industry experts on critical developments
in the energy sector.
As the world’s premier energy gathering, the Congress offers a
unique opportunity for participants to better understand energy
issues and solutions from a global perspective.
