Firefighters of the Emergency Situations Ministry were able to extinguish the fire at the second oil well on the platform #10 of Azerbaijan’s offshore Guneshli field, where a fire broke out on December 4 because of strong storm.

“Every day two groups of experienced firefighters, equipped with special equipment and means of protection are deployed to the platform from the Ministry’s vessels, which are dealing with the extinguishing a fire since December 10,” the Ministry reported.

Earlier on December 15, the firefighters of the ministry landed on the platform, and thanks to their efforts the fire at one of the oil wells was extinguished completely.

The Ministry reported that extinguishing the burning gas wells on "Guneshli" is at the final stage.

A fire broke out on the offshore platform #10 of SOCAR’s Gunashli field on December 4, after an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline was damaged in strong storm. Out of 63 people who were on platform at the moment of accident only 33 were rescued, while 23 are still regarded missing with seven dead.

Also, as a result of the storm, a booth on base #501 got washed out to the sea at approximately 12:30 local time, on December 4. At the time, the booth contained three people - Javad Khudaverdiyev, Bahman Jafarov and Rovshan Mammadov.

The search of lost oilmen is still underway.

Meanwhile, the state oil company SOCAR has allocated 15,000 manat (over $14,000) as the compensation to the families of oilmen missing in the Caspian Sea.

Earlier on December 10, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade signed a decree in connection with the accident at the platform #10.

The document stipulates a one-time financial aid of 15,000 manats to the family of each killed and missing oilman, with a view to execute the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 5, and given the proposals of the state commission created with regard to the accident on the offshore platform #10.
