Another ancient tomb discovered in Azerbaijan
By Amina Nazarli
A tomb, dating back to Bronze Age was discovered in Shahtakhti village of Kangarli district of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The news was announced by Head of Shahtakhti's archaeological
expedition of the Archaeology and Ethnography Institute of National
Academy of Science, Gahraman Agayev.
The tomb is distinguished with its form, resembling a
labyrinth.
He noted that the graves in the tomb are connected with one another, forming some circles.
The scientists speculate that the grave, placed in the center of the labyrinth, relates to the chieftain and the graves, located around it belongs to the tribe members.
Agayev believes that this is a very unique finding and its unusual layout may be associated with a particular religious cult.
"Obviously, this was conceived that a deceased soul move from
one body to another," he said.
The conducted preliminary studies give reason to relate the
discovered tomb to the Bronze Age. The scientist also added that
more extensive research on the tomb is planned for next year.
