The Korea Post releases article on occupation of Azerbaijan's Kalbajar city

The Korea Post published an article titled "Twenty years passed since the occupation of Kalbajar city of Azerbaijan" on its April edition.

The article provides information on the history, natural resources of Kalbajar and the occupation of the city by Armenian armed forces and the consequences of the occupation for native Azerbaijani residents, Embassy of Azerbaijan in Korea reported on Monday.

In the article, Kalbajar was characterized as a beautiful city of Azerbaijan with the territory of 1936 km2 and it was mentioned that the word of "Kalbajar" derives from the old Turkic meaning "castle on the river".

Talking about its history, the article emphasizes Kalbajar to be one of the oldest human dwellings, saying "the emergence and development of the primitive man in this territory dates back to the fourth geological period which means over 4 millions years of history".

Then the article informs about its natural resources saying Kalbajar is very rich especially with gold fields, such as Soyudlu-Zod with 112.5 tons of industrial resources and Aghduzdagh and Tuxtun with more than 13 tons of resources. In the article it was also mentioned that "nowadays, the beautiful nature and natural resources of Kalbajar are out of reach of its native Azerbaijani residents, since Kalbajar and its settlements have been under the occupation of Armenia for over 20 years".

The article provides information about the occupation of the city by stating that "Kalbajar was occupied by the Armenian invaders on April 2, 1993. 511 peaceful residents were killed, 321 were taken captive or became missing, and 58,000 were displaced. 130 settlements in Kalbajar went into the control of Armenians. 97 schools, 9 kindergartens, 116 libraries, 43 clubs, 42 cultural houses, 9 hospitals and 13,000 private houses were destroyed, 37,852 hectares of forests, natural resources, including gold deposits, were plundered. Kalbajar's economy lost 703.528 million rubles (the currency of that period) as a result of the occupation of Kalbajar."

The article also verifies the position of the international community regarding the occupation, the adoption of the resolution 822 and the other three resolutions by the UN Security Council demanding withdrawal of all invading forces from Kalbajar and the other occupied regions of Azerbaijan, saying that "despite all the resolutions, they still remain unfulfilled".

Azerbaijan and Armenia for over two decades have been locked in conflict, which emerged over Armenian territorial claims. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

A precarious cease-fire was signed in 1994. However, units of the Armenian armed forces commit armistice breaches on the frontline almost every day.

Despite the vandalism committed by Armenian invaders against the Azerbaijani people, these heinous acts have not received due condemnation by the world community to date.

The Azerbaijani people are still having to tolerate the Armenian vandalism and the unjust position and double standards of the international community.
