By Sara Israfilbayova
Indonesia is interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan in the fields of tourism, trade and investment, Indonesian Ambassador to Baku Husnan Bey Fananie told Trend.
Describing the relations between Azerbaijan and
Indonesia, the ambassador noted that they are at a very good
level.
This year the Azerbaijani government delegation will visit
Indonesia, where during the meetings it is planned to define
spheres for mutual investments, the ambassador added.
Fananie noted that tourism, culture, education and trade are
currently priority areas for cooperation
between Indonesia and Azerbaijan.
Today, Azerbaijan delivers oil to Indonesia. Currently, there
is a successful cooperation between SOCAR Trading company and
Indonesia’s Pertamina state oil company, and SOCAR Trading sells
third party oil to Indonesian refineries for processing.
Along with this, Indonesia is ready to supply agricultural
products - coffee, tea, palm oil, as well as products of light
industry - furniture, tires, clothing and so on to Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan and Indonesia have already started discussing prospects for development of cooperation in the non-oil sector. Business forum was held in Guba between entrepreneurs of the two countries on May 3.
The two are also discussing the possibility of canceling visa regime for tourists from Indonesia, as well as launching a direct flight from Baku to Jakarta.
The trade between Azerbaijan and Indonesia is mostly related to the energy sector, as Azerbaijan emerged as the second biggest supplier of crude oil to Indonesia in 2011 after Saudi Arabia.
Trade turnover between Indonesia and Azerbaijan for the first quarter of 2017 amounted to $9.2 million, according to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
