U.S. Frontera Resources Company started gas production and its sale process in Mtsare Khevi field in the Sagarejo district (Kakheti, Eastern Georgia) on June 20.

This news was announced by the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.

U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland attended the ceremony of launching the production together with representatives of the company. He emphasized the importance of the project and called it important for the Georgian-U.S economic relations.

Addressing the event, Executive Director of the company Steven Nicandros said this is a historic event.

"We have been working in Georgia since 1997, mainly conducting research in the field of oil and gas," he said. "We found a field with 42 billion cubic meters of natural gas. In the future, it will guarantee the energy independence of Georgia."

Frontera Resources, an international oil and gas company, was founded in 1996 to pursue international exploration and production opportunities in emerging markets.

The implementation of the project in Mtsare Khevi field began in 2011. The field consists of multiple objective reservoirs that are situated at depths between 200 meters and 1,100 meters.

Mtsare Khevi was partially delineated from 1989 to 1994, but the field was never fully developed and only partially produced gas. Frontera conducted a field study in 2007 that concluded the field contains significant undeveloped oil and gas potential.
